Concert Choir Retreat

Summer Overnight Retreat | August 17 & 18, 2019

Information for Students and Parents/Guardians

To first-year members of the Champlin Park High School Concert Choir, welcome! And to returning members, welcome back. It’s going to be a fantastic year of music and learning and I can’t wait to share it with you.

The CPHS Concert Choir is the top auditioned ensemble in Champlin Park’s Vocal Music department and it’s a huge honor for you to be selected for this honors course where students are expected to be prepared for honors-level work each day. As part of this honors commitment, Concert Choir members are expected to participate in extra learning and performance opportunities throughout the year. In order to be prepared, we have to work as a team and get an early start!

We will begin our year with an overnight team-building and rehearsal retreat starting at 4:30p on Saturday, August 17, 2019 and wrapping up at 6:00a on Sunday, August 18. This is an overnight ‘lock-in’ style retreat and all Concert Choir members are expected to participate in the full event.

This event is sponsored by the CPHS Vocal Music Association so there is no cost to students for the retreat, but adult volunteers are needed to make the event a success. Please see Volunteer Opportunities below and email Ms. Tempel at laura.tempel@ahschools.us if you are willing to volunteer for a shift or more. Thank you!

During the retreat we will:

  • welcome new Concert Choir members and get to know each other,
  • start rehearsing music for the all-district concert at Orchestra Hall in October,
  • eat together (yes, free food!),
  • perform and share talents,
  • have fun!

Please do not bring money or other valuables. Phones and car keys will be collected and labeled by adult volunteers and kept secure throughout the event. All items will be returned at the end of the retreat.

No one will leave the retreat facility during the event and no other guests will be allowed into the facility.

If possible, students should be dropped off and picked up, rather than driving themselves, so that students do not drive home without enough sleep to be safe.

To receive announcements via text message, students and parents should text @cpconchoir to 81010.

If you have any questions regarding the retreat, please email laura.tempel@ahschools.us.

Pre-Retreat and 4:00p – 8:00p | 1 volunteer needed

A volunteer will act as coordinator for the pizza dinner. Work with Ms. Tempel in advance of the retreat to coordinate ordering pizza for delivery and transporting bottled water, paper plates, and napkins for dinner.

4:00p – 8:00p | 3 volunteers needed

Volunteers will greet students at check-in and secure all phones and keys, prepare the facility for retreat activities, and help with dinner service and clean-up.

Volunteers will supervise sectional activities, coordinate the student-supplied treats for the Midnight Treat Potluck, and clean up after the break.
