Joshua Palmquist is excited to begin his fourth year at Champlin Park! His duties include directing the Treble, Varsity, Bel Canto, and Con Brio curricular ensembles and teaching Music Exploration and World Drumming.

Josh previously served as a vocal music teacher at Jackson Middle School in Champlin. In addition to directing curricular choirs at Jackson, Josh directed co-curricular choirs and served as director for schools musicals.

Josh is a 2019 graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead with a Bachelor of Arts. He was an active member of the Concordia Choir that toured throughout the United States.

Josh is an active member of the American Choral Director’s Association.

Ms. Laura Tempel

Laura is in her 23rd year as vocal music director at Champlin Park High School where her duties include directing Con Brio, Bel Canto, select Varsity and Concert Choirs, and Voice Lab. Laura also serves as the artistic director for Rebelution, the school’s select co-curricular ensemble. Her students have had the opportunity to work with Dr. Edith Copley, Dr. Angela Kasper, Sigrid Johnson, Dr. Axel Theimer, Dr. Lee Nelson, Phil Mattson, Dr. Mary Kay Geston, Dr. Matthew Mehaffey, Dr. Jeremy Fox, Dr. Tina Thielen-Gaffey, and Jason Smith. Laura earned her Bachelor of Music degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota, a Master of Education degree from Saint Mary’s University, and a Master of Music Education with a Choral Conducting emphasis at the University of Saint Thomas. Laura also holds a certificate from the Contemporary & Commercial Music Vocal Pedagogy Institute at Shenandoah University.

She was the Vocal Jazz Repertoire and Standards Chair for the American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota and served as North Central Jazz Honor Choir coordinator for “A Community That Sings,” the 2010 North Central American Choral Directors Association Division Conference in Minneapolis, with Steve Zegree, Phil Mattson, and The Real Group.

Laura is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, Minnesota Music Educators Association, and the VoiceCare Network.

The Champlin Park Vocal Music Department also works with Ms. Janeen Hudak-Griepp to offer private voice lessons to students interested in individually pursuing additional vocal education.
